How to make a summer floral crown. Easy step by step guide

Summer is here and it’s time to enjoy some summer flowers. Colourful or pastel, airy loose bouquet or structured arrangement, the possibilities are endless when it comes to putting a smile on someone’s face during summer. As this is also the season for festivals, ceremony’s and weddings, we would like to inspire you with a traditional summer floral crown designed by Spanish florist and stylist Manuela Sosa. Get fresh and creative for a summer festival, a wedding party or just for fun!

You will need

  • Fresh flowers
  • Wire
  • Ribbons
  • Floral tape
  • Knife & scissors
  • Eucalyptus or other foliage you may like

Step 1- the wire base

Create a rectangular base made up of several lengths of wire. Do this by bending a longer piece, not by cutting off separate pieces. When you bend the rectangular base round, the circle needs to fit around your head without the ends quite meeting. We will finish the crown later with the ribbon that will ensure that it fits.

Step 2- flower tape

Wrap all the wire in flower tape, creating an instant cheerful effect.

Step 3- get to work with the flowers

Select your favourite flowers, or the colours to match your outfit! The flowers have to be sturdy and fresh. With the knife, leave a small piece of stem on the flower, place it on the wire and secure it with flower tape. For a very natural look, vary the size and colour of the flowers and the foliage.

Step 4- finishing touch with ribbons

To finish your creation, attach the ribbons to the ends of the crown. You tie them together once you’ve placed the crown on your head so that it fits your size and your style. With the ribbons you can either choose a colour matching with the flowers or your dress, but it’s also possible to create a contrast with the flowers to make them even more visible.
